S17 Spinning Wheel - Unfinished

A great wheel at a great price!

The S17 is an exceptional wheel for beginner spinners. Its functionality and adaptability are such that you can grow with your wheel adding Art yarn flyer and bulky bobbins or High speed flyer and bobbins for fine spinning. This wheel will let you explore the wonderful world of hand spinning.

The wheel is a kit and needs complete assembly.  The wood is unfinished - you will need to lacquer, oil, or paint your new S17. 

The first generation Louet spinning wheels, like the S10 and S17, all have a single belt bobbin drive with an adjustable flyer brake to regulate tension. This results in spinning wheels that are very easy to learn how to spin on, and also very suitable to spin thicker yarns.

The bobbins have three whorls that can be used to obtain three spinning speeds or ratios (speed of the wheel is determined between the size differential between main fly wheel and whorl on the bobbin). By using different types of bobbins and flyers, Louet spinning wheels can be used to produce every kind of yarn, from coarse wool to fine silks. A High Speed Set is also available for this wheel for easier spinning of very fine yarns.

Finally, an excellent spinning wheel must turn freely and quietly. Accordingly we use maintenance-free ball bearings in the main hub and at the footman connection. (No lubrication is required). The wheels are made of a laminated hardwood with a "birch" exterior finish.

Its functionality and adaptability are such that your spinning wheel can evolve along with you. You can add:

- a high-speed pinning device and bobbins, and
- spools for fine spinning.

The backpost on the S17 will be 32mm thick, the original S17 skeinwinder will not fit the new version, however, our stand alone skeinwinder will solve that problem.
